Burnley-headquartered aerospace manufacturer offers engineers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge composite materials programmes supporting leading aircraft manufacturers worldwide
Velocity Composites plc has launched a recruitment campaign for a Project Engineer as the aerospace manufacturing specialist continues to invest in engineering capability to support growing customer demand across its international operations.
The Burnley-based business, which supplies advanced composite material kits, digital material management systems and manufacturing support services to aerospace and defence manufacturers around the world, is seeking an ambitious engineer to join its expanding team at a time of significant growth across the sector.
The appointment comes as global aerospace production rates continue to rise, creating increased demand for engineering expertise capable of supporting new programme launches, manufacturing optimisation and supply chain efficiency initiatives.
The successful candidate will play a central role in delivering customer-facing projects across Velocity’s UK, European and North American operations, working closely with some of the world’s largest aerospace OEMs and Tier One manufacturers.
The Project Engineer role will support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities for both structural and processed composite materials, helping customers successfully introduce new aerospace programmes while maximising manufacturing efficiency and material utilisation.
Responsibilities will span project management, customer engagement, engineering change management, manufacturing nesting support, estimating and continuous improvement activities, reflecting Velocity’s increasingly integrated approach to supporting aerospace manufacturers throughout the production lifecycle.
The position offers exposure to a broad range of aerospace applications, from commercial aircraft programmes through to defence and advanced air mobility projects, while providing opportunities to collaborate with engineering, operations, procurement and supply chain teams across multiple international locations.
According to Oliver Smalley, Chief Operating Officer at Velocity Composites, the recruitment drive reflects the company’s continued investment in talent as aerospace production volumes recover and manufacturers seek greater efficiency from their supply chains.
“The aerospace industry is entering an exciting period of growth and transformation, and engineering capability will be critical to supporting that progress,” said Smalley.
“As a business, we continue to invest in the people, technologies and systems that enable our customers to improve manufacturing performance, reduce material waste and increase production efficiency. This Project Engineer role represents an important addition to our team as we support a growing number of programmes across our global operations.”
Velocity has established itself as a specialist partner to aerospace manufacturers through its expertise in engineered composite material kits, advanced nesting technology and digitally enabled material management solutions that help customers reduce waste, improve traceability and increase productivity on the shop floor.
Unlike many traditional engineering roles, the position offers direct exposure to customer environments and international aerospace programmes. The successful candidate will work alongside customer engineering and operations teams, supporting programme launches and process improvements while developing relationships across multiple areas of the aerospace supply chain.
Regular travel within the UK and internationally will form part of the role, providing valuable opportunities to gain first-hand experience of advanced manufacturing environments and complex aerospace production programmes.
Smalley believes the breadth of experience available makes the role particularly attractive for engineers seeking long-term career development.
“Our engineers are actively involved in solving real-world manufacturing challenges for some of the most demanding customers in the world,” he said.
“They work across multiple disciplines, engage directly with customers and play a visible role in delivering projects that have a meaningful impact on programme performance. For somebody looking to develop their career within aerospace, it provides a unique combination of technical, commercial and project management experience.”
As the aerospace sector increasingly adopts advanced composite structures to reduce weight, improve fuel efficiency and support sustainability objectives, demand for specialist engineering expertise continues to grow.
Velocity’s engineering teams play a key role in helping manufacturers maximise the value of these materials through intelligent nesting strategies, engineered kitting solutions and data-driven manufacturing processes that reduce waste while improving production consistency. The Project Engineer will contribute directly to these initiatives, helping customers implement more efficient manufacturing methods while supporting Velocity’s continued expansion across global aerospace markets.
The recruitment campaign follows a period of continued investment and achievement for Velocity Composites, including the recent attainment of Nadcap Merit status across all global manufacturing facilities, ongoing expansion within the North American aerospace market and increasing involvement in major commercial aerospace, defence and advanced air mobility programmes.
For Smalley, attracting talented engineers remains fundamental to the company’s future growth ambitions.
“We’re proud of the culture we’ve built at Velocity and the opportunities available to people who want to develop their careers within a growing international aerospace business,” he said.
“Whether you’re looking to build your experience in advanced composites, project management, manufacturing technology or customer-facing engineering, this role offers the chance to be part of a team helping shape the future of aerospace manufacturing.
“We would encourage ambitious engineers who enjoy solving problems, working collaboratively and embracing new challenges to explore the opportunity.”
