For Burnley-headquartered Velocity Composites plc, the next phase of growth is being supported through investment in manufacturing leadership, with the company recruiting a new Production Manager to oversee operations at its flagship manufacturing facility.
Reporting directly to Chief Operating Officer Oliver Smalley, the appointment reflects the growing importance of operational excellence as aerospace manufacturers seek greater productivity, quality, resilience and supply chain reliability. The successful candidate will take responsibility for production, health and safety, operational performance and continuous improvement across the Burnley site, while helping to develop the capability needed to support both existing customer programmes and future growth opportunities.
The role comes as aerospace suppliers face increasing pressure to deliver higher production volumes without compromising the stringent quality and traceability standards demanded across the sector. Manufacturers are therefore investing as heavily in leadership capability as they are in automation, digital manufacturing and advanced engineering.
Rather than simply managing production schedules, modern manufacturing leaders are increasingly expected to develop high-performing teams, use operational data to drive decision-making and embed cultures centred on continuous improvement. The new Production Manager will maintain responsibility for daily manufacturing operations while working closely with planning, engineering, quality and supply chain teams to ensure products are delivered safely, efficiently and on time. A significant part of the role will focus on coaching supervisors, developing team capability and embedding clear performance measures across the operation.
While experience within aerospace or composites manufacturing would be advantageous, Velocity Composites is also encouraging applications from experienced manufacturing leaders working in other technically demanding industrial sectors who can demonstrate a proven track record of improving operational performance through people development and data-led leadership.
