Velocity Composites plc, a leading supplier of advanced composite material kits to the aerospace and high-performance manufacturing sectors, welcomed Oliver Ryan MP to its Burnley headquarters this week to showcase the company’s impressive export growth and pioneering investment in future engineering talent.
During the visit, Mr. Ryan toured the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and met with senior leadership, including CEO Jon Bridges and Chief Financial Officer Rob Smith. Discussions centred on the company’s expanding international footprint, particularly in the United States, where the export of key technology, know how and support functions have surged following the successful onboarding of a major aerospace customer at Velocity’s Alabama site.
“Velocity Composites is a shining example of British innovation and global ambition. Their growth in international markets is a testament to the strength of UK manufacturing and puts the North West at the very heart of the nation’s aerospace sector. It was a pleasure to be accompanied by their membership organisation, the Quoted Companies Alliance who advocate for high-growth companies such as Velocity Composites and the significant contribution they make to local economies” said Oliver Ryan, M.P.
“It’s great to see Velocity Composites’ commitment to developing the next generation of engineers right here in Burnley. Investing in skills development, particularly through the T-Levels programme, provides students from all over the region with a blend of academic learning and hands-on industry experience, preparing them for careers in advanced manufacturing and engineering” he summarised.
Velocity Composites recently reported a 40% increase in annual revenue, driven by strong export performance and renewed contracts with key defence partners such as BAE Systems. The company is on track to achieve profitability and become cash generative in the second half of FY25.
In addition to export success, Mr. Ryan praised the company’s investment in skills development through its adoption of the T-Levels programme. This initiative provides students with a blend of academic learning and hands-on industry experience, preparing them for careers in advanced manufacturing and engineering.
“Our future depends on the skills we develop today,” said CEO Jon Bridges. “By embedding students into our operations through T-Levels, we’re not only building a pipeline of talent but also shaping a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.”
The visit underscored Velocity’s dual commitment to economic growth and social responsibility, aligning with broader regional and national goals to boost exports, create high-value jobs, and strengthen the UK’s position in global aerospace supply chains.
