Velocity Composites joins the fight against COVID-19

Velocity Composites, the leading supplier of advanced composite material kits to the aerospace market, has delivered 8,000 urgently needed face shields to the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust to help protect frontline workers as they battle against the COVID-19 virus.

Along with many other manufacturing organisations across the UK, Velocity Composites has converted certain areas of its manufacturing facilities to enable the Company to focus on the production of protective personal equipment (PPE) for front line NHS workers at its site in Burnley.

Velocity is currently producing 1,600 face shields every day and has capacity to increase this to 3,000 per day, if needed.

Darren Ingram, Chief Operating Officer at Velocity, said:

“We are proud to help the amazing NHS staff, who are serving the nation at the frontline of this pandemic, risking their own lives and the health of their loved ones in the process. Our Class 8 clean room, normally used to manufacture highly engineered composite material kits for the aerospace industry, is a perfect controlled environment for producing the masks which are so needed by the NHS. Being able to transfer some of our world class manufacturing technology to provide this much needed protective equipment is a privilege for all involved at Velocity, and we will continue to produce the face masks for as long as they are needed. We have also produced fluid protection gowns and I would urge any healthcare professionals to get in touch if we can help further.”
